I remember that a substantial amount of planning and effort went into making this piece: the ambient background was recorded in an underpass beneath Ottawa’s main downtown limited-access freeway, and as such it may represent an overview of much of what I felt about life in general around the time it was recorded. By that I mean: the background seems representative of the industrial machine I felt enmeshed in, including the frequent automobiles and occasional trucks and buses that intrude, and pass out into the distance; and the not-quite-random construction noises and other less distinct background sounds. I’m inside this, and there’s no clear evidence that I’ll ever be outside it; it seems to go on forever.
And yet, the making of the recording itself—which is part of this struggle—is an act of hope....
An exceptional album, with cuts ranging from very good to superb. JP's lyrics and delivery are unique and interesting, and the other musicians all excellent. A mature album by a true live performer. Steven Rowat
You wonder why your relationships fail? You hate your father? Perhaps you would let someone with searingly tragic honesty reveal to you some of the ways those two things can be related? If so.... Steven Rowat
Global changes are displacing bodies and minds (think: Orlov's "Reinventing Collapse".) T.D. expresses both levels well, and he does so through music that is honest, enjoyable, and memorable. Steven Rowat
